The Hidden Cost of Dreams in Anton Chekhov's The Lottery Ticket
“The Lottery Ticket” is a short story by Anton Chekhov, first published in 1886. It tells the story of Ivan Dmitritch and his wife, Masha, who become excited about winning a lottery. They think of the substantial amount of money and begin to imagine how their lives would change. Each one thinks how the other will spend the money and start to resent each other. The couple quickly realises that the possibility of the money is already destroying their lives.
